Modelmode :: my journey through fashion modeling

So do you? here is an article I found about becoming a successful fashion model and the physical requirements needed to get the job.

Now remember, the following are guidelines for fashion and runway modeling. There are many other types of modeling such as promotional modeling, parts modeling, hair and makeup modeling and commercial modeling. The height requirement does not always apply to those.

Either way and regardless of height and body type, if you want to be a model of any kind you should probably be in the best possible shape you can.

But here is a short checklist I found for fashion modeling.

Virtual physical exam for models

Once you begin to see yourself as a successful model you’ll start doing the things to make it happen. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, it does require work but so does working a 9-5 job.

So, now that you’re visualizing yourself as a successful model, let’s get to some basics you must know …

The Physical Requirements of Modeling

If you plan to model, especially as a high fashion or runway model, you need the following physical attributes …

a) You need to be at least 5′8″ tall or taller

b) Your body weight and proportions need to flatter your height

c) You need to have a good skin complexion without lots of pimples or blemishes

d) Your hair should be in good shape (no excessive split-ends or over-dying damage)

e) Your teeth should be well taken care of, straight and white (a dynamite smile)
Look closely in the mirror and be honest with yourself. We all have limitations. Some of these things listed above you can work to improve and some (like height) you were born with.

Even if you don’t have all these model attributes. There are other opportunities in modeling not mentioned in this article by Bob Pardue (www.bobpardue.com). So Don’t Give up Hope!

While on the topic of gray haired fashion models (previous post), I gotta add this…. sorry Kristen. This is a 2008 Givenchy fashion show that includes Kristen McMenamy finishing off the line of fashion models strutting down the catwalk. The poor woman slips and falls right at the end and is helped up by another model then they scurry away very quickly… talk about an embarrassing moment.

Naomi Campbell falling on the runway in Paris from an old David Letterman interview
The interview is from around 1995 and plays footage of what must be, Naomi Campbell’s most embarrassing moments on the fashion runway.

The video shows her wearing a long scarf, tripping on her high heels and falling on her behind. After the runway spill, Naomi just sits there laughing as the crowd whistles and cheers.

Model Kamilia Wawrzynia falls on the runway.

This video is just too funny, I can’t help but laugh at this poor runway model who falls not once… but twice during the fashion show. Now, the model is carrying a large flower watering can. Or, thats what the thing looks like, and is wearing very high heels. The combination of the two may have been too much for her balance.

This poor girl struggles to get out gracefully of her first runway spill, takes a few steps, wobbles on the high heels, and falls flat on her butt. I feel for her, that must be what modeling nightmares are made of !

OK, it was funny, Carmen Electra or Elektra(I always forget) takes a dive on the runway in a fashion show. Video of Carmen Elektra falling on her butt walking down the runway. Is it wrong to find this funny?

I love the shoes. The prints are a bit to wild for my taste but some of the solid colored summer dresses are great. The orange dress would be hot without the funky army hat. Actually, all these styles would be better minus the crazy hats the models are wearing.

{March 11, 2008}   DKNY

More things I love from DKNY, these are pics from the fall collection… I believe. I really like the mix of classic fabrics with some hip inspiration. the opaque leggings on the models are also really fun.

I really, really, love the shoes on this models feet, however, the rest of the getup I can live without. Not sure why the combo of leather/pleather/vinyl or whatever and the knit little cap just turn me off

{March 9, 2008}   Gisele - the wet look

This dress on model Gisele looks like its made of water. I can’t figure out if its just an effect or if Gisele is wearing a dress made of something that looks like water. Anyway the photo and the dress is too cool.

OK, I know this is so blogged about, but I just can not resist. I LOVE project runway! I watch the reruns 20 times over and this season was off de hook! The fashion week runway show was awsome. I think this was my fave season so far and Christians dress , the two tome feathered gown at the end pretty much made me drewl. I could not find any pics of it though, not even on the BravoTV Project Runway website.

And the winner was….

Here is one of my fave outfits from the finals, I really love this look even though it has been done so many times.
